All Classes Drop-In friendly until spring break, after spring break a portion of performance classes will be dedicated to rehearsal, drop-ins accepted as long as practical.

Levels & Class Description

Intro to Contemporary

An introductory level class for the true beginner. From floor to flying! A class of dynamic and organic movement based on the fusion of contemporary techniques using weight, path, and space. We will take you through the basic patterns of a contemporary class including floor work, patterns across the floor and engaging movement exploration. Get ready to dance, sweat and laugh! We will offer basic concepts and exciting choreography. A great class for those who want to reinforce the basics.

This class will be offered as a sessional mid-year and is not part of full-year registration. Dancers wishing to start Contemporary in the fall should take one of our beginner level classes. Dancers from this intro class may choose to join other beginner classes after this sessional.

BEGINNER 1 performance

No experience required for this beginner class. We will offer basic concepts and exciting choreography. A great class for those who want to reinforce the basics. This class is a progressive course from September to June ending with a Performance. After spring break a portion of class will be dedicated to rehearsal. Drop-ins will be accepted as long as practical.

MONDAYS 6:30-7:40PM with KATHY

OPEN BEGINNER

Minimal experience required, dancers should be able to access the floor and standing movement. Similar to the Beginner 1 course, this class will adjust to those who attend, while choreography and focus will change each week. This class is non-performance and will remain Drop-in Friendly all year long.

SATURDAYS 1:15-2:30PM with KATHY

BEGINNER 2 performance

Minimum 2 years dance experience. Dancers should be able to access the floor and standing movement. This class is a progressive course from September to June ending with a Performance. After spring break a portion of class will be dedicated to rehearsal. Drop-ins will be accepted as long as practical.

THURSDAYS 8:00-9:15PM with KATHY

INTERMEDIATE 1 performance

Minimum 3 years of dance experience. Dancers are recommended to participate in 2-3 classes per week. This is a progressive class from September to June ending with a Performance - performers required to register for both classes. After spring break a portion of class will be dedicated to rehearsal. Drop-ins will be accepted as long as practical.

MONDAYS 5:00-6:30PM with KATHY and

WEDNESDAYS 7:00-8:30PM with KATHY at VAB

OPEN INTERMEDIATE

3 years dance experience required, dancers should be able to access the floor and standing movement. Similar to the Intermediate courses, this class will adjust to those who attend, while choreography and focus will change each week. This class is non-performance and will remain Drop-in Friendly all year long.

MONDAYS 9:30-11:00AM with STACEY

FRIDAYS 4:30-6:00PM with PETER

INTERMEDIATE 2 performance

Minimum 4 years of dance experience. Dancers are recommended to participate in 2-4 classes per week. This is a progressive class from September to June ending with a Performance - performers required to attend both classes. After spring break a portion of class will be dedicated to rehearsal. Drop-ins will be accepted as long as practical.

TUESDAYS 6:00-7:30PM with KATHY and

THURSDAYS 6:30-8:00PM with KATHY

OPEN INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED

4 years dance experience and strong dance background required; must be able to navigate a complex class. Strengthen your floor work, fly in the air and expand your vocabulary in this physically challenging and choreographic technique class. Similar to the our Intermediate and Advanced courses, this class will adjust to those who attend, while choreography and focus will change each week. Dancers are recommended to participate in 3-6 classes a week as well as Ballet classes This class is non-performance and will remain Drop-in Friendly all year long.

SATURDAYS 11:45-1:15PM with KATHY

ADVANCED performance

Minimum 6 years of dance experience and strong dance background required; must be able to navigate a complex class. Strengthen your floor work, fly in the air and expand your vocabulary in this physically challenging and choreographic technique class. Dancers are recommended to participate in 3-6 classes a week as well as Ballet classes. This is a progressive class from September to June ending in a Performance - performers required to register for both classes. After spring break, a portion of class will be dedicated to rehearsal. Drop-ins will be accepted as long as practical.

TUESDAYS 7:30-9:00PM with KATHY and

THURSDAYS 5:00-6:30PM with KATHY

OPEN ADVANCED/PROFESSIONAL

Dancers are expected to have a strong technical base and navigate a complex class. Dancers are expected to be training and working at an advanced level. Class will support technical training, varying conceptual work, exploration of dynamic range. Strengthen your floor work, move huge, indulge your fine work, and expand your vocabulary in this physically and choreographic technique class. This class is non-performance and will remain Drop-In friendly all year long. This class is scheduled to offer Third Canvas Dance Company and other professionals a great Friday class before rehearsal or performance or just to kick start your weekend.

FRIDAYS 11:00-12:30PM with KATHY

CONTACT IMPROV

Join us for a workshop that welcomes dancers of all levels to enhance their improvisational skills! We’ll explore the fundamentals of contact and release through sensitivity, deep listening, and body awareness. The session includes a guided individual warm-up and progressive levels of touch and ends with the creation of a group score. Dive into dynamic movement exploration and play in a supportive and creative environment. All are welcome!

FRIDAYS 6:00-7:30PM with STACEY HORTON

IMPROVISATION DANCE

Join us for a class that welcomes dancers of all levels to enhance their improvisational skills! We’ll explore the fundamentals of sensitivity, deep listening, and body awareness.  Learning to listen to your body and allow movement impulse to create dance exploration. The session includes a guided individual warm-up, movement goals and prompts all guided by a creative and supportive teacher. Dive into dynamic movement exploration and play in a supportive and creative environment. All are welcome!

Discover your inner choreographer with Kathy Lang’s Choreographic Mentorship program. These courses are offered throughout the year at various times to provide additional creative experiences.

Seda Dance is pleased to be able to offer additional Choreographic Projects throughout the year. Get Involved with the creation and performance of a Contemporary dance piece created by one of Seda Dance’s Teachers or Guest Choreographers.
